Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNO): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday reacted sharply to Union Minister Giriraj Singh defending Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's action of removing a Muslim woman's hijab while receiving an appointment letter during an official function.
Pertinently, Singh had stated that showing one's face is required for such procedures and that the woman could refuse the job or face consequences.
Addressing a gathering at the PDP headquarters here, Mehbooba, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “India is neither a Hindu nor a Muslim nation but a secular country for which Mahatma Gandhi sacrificed his life.”
She likened Singh’s mindset to the “Kaurava Raj” of the Mahabharata, where “women’s dignity was trampled.”
The PDP chief welcomed new entrants into the party and reiterated her call to “protect the rights, dignity, and land of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”—(KNO)
